MPFC Value

A dead white guy said (Charlie Munger), “Determine value apart from price, progress apart from activity, and wealth apart from size.”

Charlie died a couple of years ago now, but he was a Dude. He was a he-ro on the back lines; he thought, as a WWII meteorologist, how can I invert every problem? Instead of how do I keep pilots safe, he said, how could I kill them? This is very emergency medicine “worst first” thinking.

No one values the people who did not die. Nor should I charge for a child who lived a meaningful and long life because they didn’t get measles. We cannot take the time to measure what did not happen nor value what might have been. This aversion to gain and overweighting of loss is a human survival tactic. We feel the loss 3 times greater as pain than we appreciate gains. Value every day, this day, for if it is lost, you won’t be bothered. Those around you will miss you.

Measure progress apart from Activity. We know this; we play best this way: we possess, pass 3-10 meters easy, 2-5 or 7 and a change on goal, take a long look here and there. Be first, play the way you face; look after each other on D.

Count yourselves wealthy for the joy, memories, banter and teamwork. No drama; keep apart on the sideline; avoid the ego-driven drivel. We know how to play and should be clear that we can best most on the right day our way. I am longing to get about it in the rain; good struggle, strong challenges, but just a hand-up appeal. The appointed overlord may be our own or theirs; no bother making the job easy. Don’t bother if we don’t get a call; the photos may reveal it was correct in spite of our intentions.

Avoid the drama, then Easy =

Crushed: I can’t be there today, but my youngest is crushing this swim meet in Hawke's Bay. He swam a 400IM last night, dropped 30 seconds to a 5:59:06, breaking a 14-year-old club record (he is 11). The oldest daughter has been coaching him, so my work here is done: pass the torch and hand me a cold one.
